OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM (ODS)* / PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF INDICATOR*

ODS is designed to detect the presence of the front passenger and turns off airbag deployment accordingly.

Depending on the situation and type of accident, the system may: 

If the system determines that the airbag should not be deployed, the “PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF” indicator will illuminate.

Reminders:

  • Do not allow an adult passenger to ride in the front seat when the Passenger Airbag Indicator is illuminated OFF because the airbag will not deploy in the event of a crash. The driver must instruct the passenger to reposition her/himself in the seat.
  • Do not place objects in the passenger seat, which may interfere with ODS operation and incorrectly detect a passenger
