ALL WHEEL DRIVE (AWD)
The All Wheel Drive (AWD) system can help improve driving performance by enhancing the vehicle’s driving force under severe conditions. AWD is designed to activate automatically by distributing the vehicle’s driving power to all four wheels when the system detects a need for extra traction. In addition electronic AWD may help improve stability when driving straight and driving performance around curves.
Tips for operating AWD safely:
- When you are in AWD mode, you must drive more slowly, particularly when turning as there is increased risk of rollover
- Hold the steering wheel firmly, especially during off-road driving, and do not make quick steering wheel movements such as sharp lane changes or sudden turns
- Driving on snow, ice, sand or mud: Start off slowly by gently pressing on the accelerator. Use snow tires or tire chains for snow and ice. Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you. Avoid speeding, rapid acceleration, sudden braking and sharp turns. The wheels may not operate when stuck in snow, sand or mud. This is to protect the transmission and is not a malfunction
- Driving on hills: When driving up or down a hill, drive as straight as possible and be extremely cautious of vehicle rollover caused by the grade, terrain, water or mud
- Driving through water: Avoid driving in standing water. If you must drive through water, stop your vehicle and then drive below 5 mph. Do not shift while driving in water
This feature may not be available on all Kia models.
